"These are the best of times, these are the worst of times.”
The above lines best describe the changing nature of media and news.
From a simplistic world where there were 8-10 news outlets that regulated everything, where there was a clear distinction of Alpha male in news (the news generators) and the Beta male in news (the news consumers), we have come to the social media world of everybody being an Alpha male. These news outlets had credibility and more importantly accountability. They came from different ideologies and philosophies, which meant they will broadcast different POV’... Read More
Social media is about accentuating the finer points of a brand to a level that people talk about it, associate with it and use it as a reason to buy the brand.
At the top level, these finer points can be classified into 3 parts:
Product Experience (Functional)
Brand Experience (Emotional)
Marketing Spiel (Fun)
What makes social special is that it doesn’t need to be one of the three. It can be multiple ones and there can be multiple finer points in each of these categories. What brands usually miss out on is clearly defining these as part of a strategic framework while creati... Read More
“Have you ever heard of Harry Houdini? Well, he wasn't like today's magicians who are only interested in television ratings. He was an artist. He could make an elephant disappear in the middle of a theater filled with people, and do you know how he did that?
What the eyes see and the ears hear, the mind believes.”
Today, I am reminded of this famous quote from the movie, Swordfish. Perhaps Travolta’s best work after Pulp Fiction.
Seems like Donald Trump got his training from Harry Houdini himself. The latest decision to quit Paris Climate Accord seems clearly ... Read More
Let me begin by congratulating Narendra Modi and the NDA government for successfully completing 3 years. I am extremely glad that things in India are much better in 3 years than the 3 months of the newly elected US government.
Even the staunchest opposition to Narendra Modi and the current government will agree that his ability to connect with the masses is strong and effective. The working of the government is a miracle at best and a very well run marketing machine at the worst. This is where closer analysis need to be done.
This government so far has much lesser serious scams, th... Read More
Today is reality day. 9th May. It has a very significant presence in my life. It’s the day when I decided on calling my new venture OMLogic. A company that has become a part of my life bigger than anything could ever be. OMLogic, the name, completes a decade of being, and its certainly time to reminisce. I still keep getting asked, mostly by people who find my decision disappointing and confusing, as to why I decided to move back to India. And I have given multiple different answers to them based on who was asking the question. Entrepreneurship bug, parents, Delhi life, kids are top amongst ... Read More
Today is World Health Day and the theme is “Depression: Let’s talk!”
It seems like everyone is suffering from depression these days (even the economy, the society, the morals and the ethics). But this blog is not to discuss any of these subjects.
I want to talk about the changing nature of the world and what I think are the larger aspects of this thing called depression.
What is depression? Under most circumstances it is the unwillingness (not the inability) to do something by the right side of the brain which the left side of the brain thinks is a must do. In that sense, us... Read More
He must be the most unique personality of the post independent India. Nobody has gained as much popularity during this time, much bigger than Anna and AK, perhaps bigger than JP Narayan, perhaps as big as Indira Gandhi. He has become the symbol of non-corrupt, developing Indian, a true statesman. Even his biggest critics can't take this away from him. The only true statesman of significance I can think of in the last 20 years. Anna may be in the list but was very short-lived & hence insignificant.
But the confounding question is: Who is he and where is he headed? To answer this quest... Read More
Perhaps the biggest impact of the digital world is the job of the HR.
From being a role where the profile was simply to hire those that fitted well with the company, offering bananas for every good performance and firing those that didn't fit well, HR has become what we in OMLogic call as 'Office Boss'. In smaller companies, this role becomes even more critical due to varied functions that this role encompasses. Specifically in service based startups, HR needs to become the second in command in the company.
Office Boss: A person who is the glue that holds the entire organization toget... Read More
While it has been an amazing experience working for brands in all sizes, shapes and forms over the last few years, 2017 started differently. For the first time, I took one of the brands and became a customer.
It’s not that I have never consumed the content/products of the brands I have worked for before, but this one was different. It’s much more invasive and involved than any of the other ones.
We started working for an Eye Hospital, Eye7 (AKA Chaudhary Eye Center). I loved the new Contoura Vision Technology and used it to correct my vision. To my surprise, the process was amazingly... Read More
The business capital of Delhi, Connaught Place, is all set to become a no-traffic zone from 1st February.
While some may dismiss this decision as juvenile, it seems like a very calculated move to attract media and attention.
Is there a need to control traffic and its movement in CP - YES. But the solution being proposed it extremely absurd. I am surprised at the apathy with which such decisions are being made in this country, especially Delhi. Seems like we have become a test ground of whimsical, irrational politicians to try-out ideas with no ground level thinking to it.
What is ... Read More
